Awhile back I did an interview with Rob Max, the Executive Director for Sweet Relief Musician’s Fund whose mission it is to aid struggling professional musicians who have fallen on hard times.  With the digital age clearly upon us, advances in technology and the surge of pirated music have taken a toll not only on the once mighty record labels but also the artists who spent their lives pursuing their craft.

Welcome to RadioComa’s Feed of  Week in which we not only highlight some great music but also the people behind the mic that bring it to you. To start things off on a spectacular high note, ladies & gentlemen -  Planet Jazz hosted by Katchie Cartwright.

Katchie is an ethnomusicologist, performer and teacher. She has her doctorate in music from The Graduate Center of The City University of New York. Along with her husband, Richard Oppenheim, Katchie moved to San Antonio from New York City in 2006 when she accepted a position at Northwest Vista College where she is currently an associate professor of music.

Katchie describes the show as:

PLANET JAZZ is a weekly radio show on KRTU Jazz 91.7 that features Jazz and improvisation from around the world: jazz-world fusions, traditional idioms, and what I like to call the “Great Global Songbook,” which includes jazz-related genres from other parts of the world. Programming features live interviews with visiting and local musicians.
